Changemaker: Monica Norley
Ongoing project
The Egg Foundation proudly supports the Women and Children with Albinism in Uganda (WACWAU) project, led by the dedicated Monica Norley as our Change Maker. WACWAU is a registered NGO committed to serving the needs of the most vulnerable members of our community. Across Africa, individuals with Albinism often endure severe human rights violations and abuses, impacting their economic, political, social, and cultural rights in profound ways.
Societal misconceptions about Albinism have led to exclusion, stigmatization, and the denial of fundamental rights, including access to education and healthcare. Widespread ignorance, unfounded beliefs, and superstitions further endanger the lives of those affected. Women and children with Albinism, in particular, frequently face dehumanizing treatment and are unfairly dismissed as incapable.
Through Mama Mzungu, our social enterprise soap-making initiative born under the economic empowerment arm of WACWAU, we have taken significant steps toward positive change. To date, we've provided full-time employment opportunities for women affected by Albinism in Uganda. Driven by determination and a strong desire to showcase our capabilities, we've united to pursue sustainable job creation, economic empowerment, and self-reliance.
Our vision extends beyond Uganda; we aim to extend this initiative to other regions and countries, impacting the lives of Albinism-affected individuals globally.
In addition, we are excited to announce that we will soon feature video content and visual stories from these remarkable women. Through these stories, you can follow their work more closely, learn about their experiences, and witness firsthand the impact of our Soap Revolution. We invite you to be part of our journey, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable world. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and create positive change.
